Functionality
On/Off Switch to the right. Fast / Slow Speed Switch to the Left. This offers simplicity in operating the blender. You can't go wrong. There is always some sophistication necessary. Vitamix built it into the engineering of the container and the 4-star-alike blade. Blendtec put it into the dual-wing-tipped blade and its pre-programmed blending cycles. The Smoother Series for example, has 30 programs and you can write your own, the Connoisseur comes with a 25 program portfolio of blending cycles, so does the HP3A, and the Total Blender has a whopping wow, wuo, wie, miau .... only 13 programs...
About the Blender
The Vitamix 4500 Turbo Blender has been around for many years. It has a proven motor. Make your soups or fresh green raw smoothies. Use the tamper / accelerator tool only when needed. For example, when enough liquid mixed-in with the ingredients, it is unlikely you will need the tamper. However, when blending ice cubes in, frozen vegetables or fruit, or when you want to blend pate', or puree', it is most likely required that you need your tamper. Use it carefully, and make sure you always have the lid in place when using.
Is the tamper really so necessary? Not really. For example, Blendtec makes an electronic operated blender that has been designed so you won't need a tamper at all (if you follow the instructions carefully). Between the 2 blenders is really not much price difference. Both of them are advertised for $ 399.95. We are of course selling it for much less. Bottom line: All high performance blenders that we sell are fantastic in workmanship and in longevity. They have all the power to get your smoothies done perfectly, "just as the doctor ordered...".
About the container; it is made from BPA-Free Tritan Polycarbonate material. The container is a 2 liter / 64 fl oz jar. Fill it never up all the way to the top. You will learn your cleaning lesson if you do. If you put as much ingredients in just about what the picture shows and about 1 cup of water or other liquids, you will get 2 servigs about 16 oz to 20 oz total smoothie content. Consider please, when you fill the container up all the way to the top and keep adding ingredients, it is likely that you spill and you will make too much smoothie.
Also consider that you may want to keep some room to add ice cubes to cool the smoothie down and chill it for a tastier consumption. The 2 hp blender is powerful but some ingredients, subject to smoothie-smoothieness and blending in all seeds (Strawberry Seeds, Raspberry Seeds, etc...) will take little longer than in the Vita Mix 1005 / 3 hp blender, in the 3.5 hp Xtreme Waring blenders, and the Blendtec 3.5 hp Smoother ICB 7 20 AMP Blender. When the blending process takes longer, the smoothie of course warms up through the friction....thus the need for ice cubes.
This brings us to the soups. Making a soup with this blender will take about 4 to 5 minutes. The soup won't be burning hot. It will be tasty and of course the process will not overcook the ingredients and thus destroy valuable nutrients. This is the main reason of why you want to use a blender to make soup. A 3 hp blender, or a 3.5 hp blender will make the soup obviously little faster.
There is also a noise level difference: A power difference, for example in the Vitamix 4500 a 2 hp motor drives the blending operation at about 95 dB, and with Blendtec a 3 hp motor rotates the double-wing-tipped blade. Waring even offers a whooping 3.5 hp blender. Of course there is a difference in results. We are now offering a blender sound enclosure box.
